David Goyer, the screenwriter behind the upcoming Man of Steel and the wildly successful Batman trilogy took to Reddit yesterday to answer fan questions. He told the interwebs that he’d like to do a Wonder Woman film. Anyone else’s head just explode?
Okay, I know Wonder Woman is considered problematic. In fact, Goyer said just that. He told Reddit, “I think Wonder Woman is a very difficult character to crack. More difficult than Superman, who is also more difficult than Batman. Also, a lot of people in Hollywood believe that it’s hard to do a big action movie with a female lead. I happen to disagree with that. But that tends to be the prevailing wisdom. Hopefully, that’ll change in the next few years. Who should play her? No idea…”
Casting aside, Wonder Woman has been a difficult property. Sure, there are the Hollywood issues with a female lead in an action movie (um, Hollywood, women and men would both go see this in droves, so give up that theory right now), but I think the real issue with her is that she’s too “good.” It’s the same issue that Superman has, though he’s got the whole human parents/Kryptonian parents issue. She’s a goddess, and it’s going to be a bit difficult to dirty her up. That said, it can absolutely be done. So many people have tried (including Joss Whedon) and failed that it does seem like a lost cause, but someone has to make this work. Please?
Okay, guys. Who would you like to see play Wonder Woman? Should David Goyer take it on? Let us know below.
